Startup funding API: questions

Where does the funding data come from?

From public funding announcements on PR Newswire and from SEC Form D filings, which US companies file when they sell exempt offerings. Optional Google News discovery adds announcements from the wider web.

Is a Form D the same as a funding round?

Not always. Form D reports exempt-offering sales, which often follow a round but can also be ongoing raises. Each row keeps the announced round and the Form D amounts apart, so you can tell them apart too.

Does it cover companies outside the US?

Announcements include companies anywhere that publish on PR Newswire, and news discovery widens that. Form D filings are US-only. It is not a complete worldwide funding database.

Does it include people's contact details?

No. It lists company facts and, from Form D, related persons' names and roles as filed. It does not collect emails or phone numbers.
